Steve Disenhof
There was a woman at a rally that I was covering recently. She held a sign saying, “I can’t believe I still have to protest this s__ fifty years later.” That resonated with my experience and is why I joined Pro-bono Photography. This is clearly an inflection point in our planet’s history, one that the history books won’t skip over – if there’s anyone left to write one. If that sounds like an existential threat, it’s because I believe that’s where we are. So it’s incumbent on all of us to be involved. Now. Today.
To the more mundane. I’m retired from my third career. I was a licensed clinical social worker until our now-grown children came along. Then an at-home dad for eight years. Then finally, armed with a night school MBA, became a managing partner in a respected investment firm, responsible for the operations side of the business.
But for the past six years I’ve moonlighted as a photojournalist for the United States Press Agency and have been passionately developing my craft as a semi-professional fine art photographer. I’m also actively engaged with the Daraja Academy of Kenya, where I’ve taught photography, computer science and business skills since 2010 (and where I’m on the Board of Directors) and regularly teach workshops for job hunters at several Bay Area schools and non-profits.
