Sandy Morris
My father (a semi pro photographer) gave me my first camera when I was 10 years old, and I have been taking pictures ever since. I am also an artist. My watercolors and drawings have been on display in galleries in New York, San Francisco, Sausalito, Petaluma and Santa Rosa. I have won awards at the Sonoma County Fair and the Petaluma Fair, as well.
I have long been active in the women’s movement, and was one of the founding mothers of Marin Abused Women’s Services, which recently changed its name to The Center for Domestic Peace. I served on its board of directors for nine years.
My involvement in the women’s movement and my love of music introduced me to Women’s Music. In 2005, I acquired my first digital camera which has enabled me to share the pro bono photos that I have taken at many concerts, social and environmental causes and actions, fundraisers, celebrations and events with Women’s Music organizers and performers.
I am also a photographer for the San Francisco Bay Times.
For me, photography has opened up new ways to create art, to capture the moment … and to give back to the community.
