Louise Williams
I have been photographing people and places around the Bay Area for 50 years. I taught 7th graders at Del Mar School in Tiburon and at Piedmont Middle School in Piedmont for 23 years. While teaching I also had a portraiture business and photographed children and families. I mostly worked in Black and White and processed my images in my own darkroom which was under the front stairs.
When I retired I began photographing and processing my images digitally. I discovered the art of compositing images and began studying with Maggie Taylor, whose work I admire. I've enjoyed making creative images digitally for several years and have won awards for them.
In the past, I was most happy when creating new images which were light-hearted and whimsical. Lately, however, the challenges that face our country have made me feel extremely sad and ineffectual as far as making any sort of dent in the poverty, injustice, and hopelessness I see around me. I had thought that the fantasy and whimsy which my pictures convey would add a bit of joy to the world. But these days I feel my images are dalliances.
When I learned of PBP I was interested at once. Making images can be powerful, can lead to change. If my images can lead, however indirectly, toward positive outcomes, I want to make them. That is why I want to join PBP.
louisekwilliams.com contains both my art work andmy portraits.
