Katherine Marchand
Born to a Cuban architect and an American history buff, I was raised with a passion for storytelling, learning to pay attention to the little details that others often miss. I received my BA from Tufts University and trained in long-form narrative photojournalism under World Press Photo Chairman Gary Knight. While based in Rome working for the United Nations, I was hit by a car on my way home from work — what I like to call my “Regina George” moment. While spending a year in recovery at home in New York, I began noticing how obsessively people documented every aspect of their life and participated in the world through a screen, but rarely lived fully present in the moment. This led me to create an alternative wedding photography studio, which I ran for seven years capturing hundreds of events in New York and around the world. Now I'm returning back to my roots and moving into the social impact and non-profit space. A recent transplant to the East Bay, I am so excited to be a part of the community and use my lens to help local organizations best tell their stories and the stories of those they serve.
