Bob Shonkoff
As a Brooklyn teenager with a NIkkormat, I started shooting the protests against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights. After majoring in Photography and Cinema in college, my career was spent on the business side of mass media. During this time, I remained drawn to the creative outlet of Street Photography as I commuted through the streets of New York, Chicago and San Francisco. When I retired from NBC in 2016, the political climate suddenly flipped upside down so I jumped back into photographing political activism.
Then I discovered Pro Bono Photo as a means to focus my efforts and contribute with other like-minded photographers. I am grateful to have this outlet to support important causes and document events that hold significance for its participants and represent the stories of these times.
